Andrea Hatin
Southeast Director of Bands

Andrea was born and raised in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. She was inspired by her parents, Karen and Jim to become involved in music and realized that it was her passion while in band at Braden River Middle, under the guidance and direction of Maynard Erickson.  She then followed in the footsteps of her stepmom, Holly, and became a member of the Marching ‘Noles, for 4 years at Southeast High School; under the direction of Owen Bradley, Robert Bush, and Pam Chaffin.  Also, in band with her were her twin sister, Kelly and best friends Liz and Megan Jefferds...also twins!  While in Sarasota, Andrea was an avid member of the Florida West Coast Symphony Youth Orchestras (now Sarasota Orchestra), and studied horn under Larry Solowey and Lisa Aplikowski-Lind.  She was also greatly influenced by Betsy Hudson-Traba, flute, and Fernando Traba, bassoon, and conductors Ari Pelto and Andrew Lane, also of the Sarasota Orchestra.  During high school, she spent her summers at the internationally acclaimed Interlochen Arts Camp, in Interlochen, Michigan, studying under Douglas Campbell.

She then attended Florida State University, studying horn under Michelle, Stebleton, David Cripps, and Kevin Reid, and playing in ensembles under the direction of Patrick Dunnigan, Richard Clary, and Alex Jimenez.  During Andrea’s time at FSU, she was the horn section leader for 2 of her 4 years in the ‘world renown’ Marching Chiefs-the largest college marching band in the world.  She also was a member of the service oriented fraternity; Kappa Kappa Psi-National Honorary Band Fraternity.  While at FSU, she attended a study abroad program in Florence, Italy, and began her studies of the Italian language, culture, and literature, eventually earning a minor in Italian.  Unbeknownst to her at the time, this would later come in handy when she got wind of an ex-pat; David Johnson, of the American Horn Quartet, teaching at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana, in beautiful Lugano, Switzerland.  She attended a workshop in Lugano, and decided that it would be the perfect place to continue her studies in music.  While at the Conservatory, Andrea studied horn under David Johnson, Sandro Ceccarelli, and Andreas Kamber.  Also, while over in Europe, she was greatly influenced by the playing and teachings of Froydis Ree Wekre, Radovan Vlatkovich, Heather Johnson, Mario Anchilotti, Milan Rericha, and Gabor Meszaros.

Andrea has had the opportunity to perform with many orchestras and ensembles throughout the US, Switzerland, and Italy, including: the Pocket Opera Company in Zurich, CH, the Huttweiler Kammerorchester in St. Moritz, CH, the Orchestra Arcadia, in Ticino, CH, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, in Albany, GA, and locally in the Sarasota Concert Band and Sarasota Sailor Circus Band!  Currently, she plays tenor horn with the Brass Band of Central Florida, which she is very excited about.  Aside from music, she enjoys art-(photography, ceramics, drawing/painting, and interior decorating) and sports-(ice skating, skiing, hiking, swimming, and golf!)  She also loves to travel and spend time with friends, family, and her cats; Roux and Jeezy!  Andrea is extremely honored and excited to come back home to teach band at SEHS....it really is a dream come true!  She is very blessed!
